ABC TV gets a new president with wider duties

Article Abstract:

Patricia Fili-Krushel has been named the new president of the ABC Television Network after serving as a Lifetime executive before accepting a position as ABC's president of daytime division. In replacing Preston Padden, who will become the chief lobbyist for ABC's parent, the Walt Disney Co., she will become the highest-ranking television female executive. Working out a deal with ABC's affiliates, which are negotiating with ABC over payments for National Football League telecasts, will be one of the new president's most formidable challenges.

Beyond Barbie's midlife crisis; is Mattel's chief up to a companywide makeover?

Article Abstract:

Investment bankers, analysts and retailers might feel they are not getting what they bargained for after all as orders for Barbie fall and so did profits last quarter. Mattel's chief executive Jill Barad, it is felt, may devote too much attention to the famous doll and not enough to boys toys and other units of the company. She may be too marketing oriented to handle the financial demands and management of top executives in the long haul.
