Fifteen major pharmaceutical firms from the US and Europe will share information and supplies related to human trials of drugs to fight AIDS. Reports on health issues, including a smoking ban in Vermont and a government plan to prevent lead poisoning, are presented.

The FDA and the American Red Cross planned to improve the safety of the blood-collection programs of the Red Cross. Reports on depression, sickle-cell anemia, hearing aids, a multiple sclerosis drug and tachycardia are provided.
