Advanced manufacturing technology: implementation policy and performance

Article Abstract:

A study aimed at determining whether the adoption of different advanced manufacturing technologies (AMT) affect the eventual performance of a manufacturing firm employed a cross-sectional survey methodology on 125 companies in the US. Data gathered from the manufacturing firms were used to evaluate the hypothesis derived from the review of the AMT implementation literature. Results of the study revealed that firms implementing integrated technologies had exerted more effort on strategic planning and team-based project management and had also higher performance levels as compared to other firms.

A comparative investigation of hierarchical clustering techniques and dissimilarity measures applied to the cell formation problem

Article Abstract:

The application of seven hierarchical clustering techniques and eight dissimilarity measures to the cell formation problem is studied. Results show that the performance of clustering techniques is determined by dissimilarity measures, data sets, stopping rules and metrics. Variations between clustering techniques can also by minimized by restricting the solution space for acceptable cell configurations.
