Luxury-car makers try the party scene

Article Abstract:

High-end automobile companies are throwing $10 million parties where around 25,000 of attendees can race the newest vehicles, watch fashion shows, enjoy a Ray Charles or Eric Clapton concert, or get Michael Jordan's autograph at a celebrity golf tournament. Lexus culls its party patrons from Vanity Fair subscription lists and fancy zip codes. The idea of "presence marketing" is in the knowing that the buying of a luxury car is an emotional experience, and car companies feel guests can be seduced into customers.
