An obscure rule works overtime

The Labor Policy Assn reports that US businesses could owe employees as much as $39 million in back pay due to violating a US Dept of Labor overtime compensation rule. The rule states that employees must be paid one-and-a-half times their hourly rate for time worked over 40 hours in a one-week period.

Article Abstract:
An FCC rule will require all businesses with 20 or more employees to assure that all their phones are hearing-aid compatible by May 1994. The rule implements the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 1988. Violations can result in fines of $10,000 per day up to $75,000.
