Siemens will close memory-chip plant in Britain following glut in the market

Article Abstract:

Siemens AG announced that it is shutting down a memory-chip facility in the United Kingdom just 15 months after it was opened. Siemens has experienced difficulties as a result of the extended slowdown in the global semiconductor industry. The facility is located in Tyneside in northeast England. The plant will begin to reduce production by the end of September 1998. The plant shutdown is the first step in Siemens' newest restructuring strategy.

SAP's top U.S. official, Wahl, resigns to join TriStrata Security

Article Abstract:

SAP AG of Germany announced that its leading official in the US, Paul Wahl, is resigning from the company. Mr. Wahl is departing from SAP to join with a start-up software firm in Silicon Valley. Mr. Wahl has been the CEO of SAP's US operations since 1996. Kevin McKay, the unit's chief operating officer, will replace Mr. Wahl immediately. The announcement caught many within SAP by surprise.
