Index funds are becoming popular in Australia because of their low risk and low fund management fees/related costs. The average management expense ratio (MER) of Australian equity trusts is 1.85%; the Vanguard Index Australian Shares Fund's MER, for example, is 0.75% Unlike actively- managed funds, most index funds do not charge clients entry or exit fees. Australian investors can choose between 11 index funds.
