Some academics believe that the addition of seemingly trendy social issues to liberal arts education hurts the education, and the traditional courses should be the core of liberal arts. The criticism does not take into account that new analysis of old thoughts could invigorate the curriculum.

An Irish writer who is fluent in both English and the Gaelic language, which is now properly called Irish in Ireland, describes why she composes her poetry in the ancient Celtic tongue. Her earliest poems were in English, but she found Irish to be a more natural language for her use.

Many poetry readings in the US are too long and cater to rude and arrogant poets. The readings would be more interesting and illuminating if poets came prepared, and allowed a spontaneous question and answer period. Examples of disappointing poetry readings are given.
