Dylex files for creditor protection

Canadian retail giant Dylex Ltd filed for creditor protection on Jan 11, 1995. The firm plans to restructure its $165 million debt, layoff 1,800 workers and close 25% of its stores. Its financial problems stemmed from several bad acquisitions made in the 1980s.

Article Abstract:

Bramalea Inc filed for bankruptcy protection on Mar 1, 1995, and recently won a ruling by an Ontario bankruptcy judge that allows the firm to continue operating until May 31, 1995. However, 44 of Bramalea's worst performing assets may be seized by creditors.
