Uncertainty leaves publishers holding the books
Article Abstract:
Computer book publishers and booksellers could suffer heavy consequences if the Justice Department's and state attorneys's lawsuits against Microsoft delay or modify its Windows 98 software scheduled to reach stores on Jun 25, 1998, according to industry insiders. An industry list expects 66 Windows 98 how-to books to reach stores on Jun 25, and a range of at least 50 more titles that list Windows 98 in the title. Microsoft expects to complete most of its Windows 98 sales for 1998 within 90 days of its release. Peak interest will take place within the first 30 days, and publishers must take advantage of this brief opportunity by getting books on the shelves.
