Bob Joss, former chief executive of Australia's Westpac Bank, feels that Australian managers do not handle people well and are behind globally because of a lack of international experience. Joss considers providing clear direction, helpful feedback, and honest evaluation to be keys in becoming successful people managers. Given that Australia only opened its economy in the mid 1980s and suffered a recession shortly after, global capital management experience is lacking.
