Business research: a new corporate function

Business research is an essential component in effective business management. As a business function, business research eliminates inefficiencies in attempting new business for companies. It enables corporate vision statement drafting, internal venturing, sponsorship of mission-oriented technical research, technical research tie-ups and venture capital investment. Essential to the effectivity of business research is the integration of the working groups and satisfaction of their particular needs.

Incentive compensation for corporate venture personnel

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of incentive plans for corporate venture companies is presented. The failure of most formal corporate ventures is attributed to the prevailing management compensation scheme. Key managers of successful independent companies backed by venture capitalists own stocks in their ventures. The suggested plan recommends a balancing of rewards against achievement and personal risks and complementation of corporate strategy.

The credibility of corporate managers is judged against their ability to meet business plans. Critical assumption planning is a process which can help managers control risks and uncertainties in a new business proposition. Decisions to discontinue or redirect ventures are made earlier, which can mean money saved for the corporation and career credibility for venture managers.
