DaimlerChrysler celebrates 'Day-One' in Newark

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler celebrates its first day as a consolidated entity, resulting from the merger of Chrysler Corp. and Daimler of Germany, at the Newark, NJ, plant with the company's around 3,200 Newark workers given gift packages that include a Swatch watch with the new company name. The plant, which manufactures the Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle, also expressed little sentimentality on the disappearance of the Chrysler Corp. name. With the new beginning for the company, it will be incorporated into Stuttgart, although it will have headquarters in Germany and in Auburn, MI.
