Dianon launches bid of $80 million to buy competitor UroCor

Article Abstract:

Dianon Systems Inc. has launched an unsolicited offer to acquire UroCor Inc. for approximately $80 million. This comes out to $7.50 per share. Both firms stated that the bid follows several months of unsuccessful negotiations over potential business combinations. Dianon is a diagnostic-testing service provider. UroCor manufactures products that detect, diagnose, and treat prostate and bladder cancer.

First Data is near deal to buy ATM competitor

Article Abstract:

First Data Corp., which already owns the money transfer firm Western Union, is moving to acquire ATM network operator Concord EFS for $7 billion. The deal calls for First Data to pay $15-a-share for Concord, but that price could vary based on stock market moves. First Data has previously talked to Concord about merging, but became more interested when Concord upgraded its accounting methods.

Canadian National seeks deal approval

Article Abstract:

Canadian National Railway has filed with federal regulators in an attempt to win approval for its proposed $2.4 billion acquisition of Illinois Central Corp. The acquisition would combine the north and south continental freight markets in the US. Canadian National believes it will see approximately $216 million a year in revenues and cost savings when the acquisition is completed.
