Small firms are flocking to SIGS as an alternative to a dearth of private insurers or costly state residual markets. Companies join together, hire an administrator, and run their insurer like a cost center/safety consultancy. Stop-loss and aggregate insurance protects the SIG from major liability.

Workers' comp via managed care: workers' comp insurers that use a managed-care approach may be able to help some small firms cut costs

Article Abstract:

Small businesses can especially reduce their workers' compensation costs by contracting for the insurance from a carrier that uses a managed care approach for medical treatment. Such an approach can reduce overall costs while maintaining the legally-required coverage.
