Discount rates were lowered from 6.25% to 5.75% by the United States Federal Reserve Board to improve economic and stock market conditions. The decision proved to be effective, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 233 points in just one day. Other strategies that the Federal Reserve Board may use to improve the economy are suggested.
