Article Abstract:

The federal Treasurer of Australia, Peter Costello, put international tax reform on the policy agenda of 2003 when he included in the federal budget changes to taxation arrangements affecting multinational companies with operations in Australia, fund managers offering offshore investment products, and expatriates working in Australia. The international tax measures announced in the federal budget are presented.

Australian businesses seek large amount of finance from lenders and equity investors and some companies seek funding from alternative sources. Reserve Bank of Australia reports that the business credit increased at an annualised rate of 13 percent, which is above the usual levels.
