Growing businesses by generating genuine business opportunities: a review of recent thinking

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the influence of minimizing costs and enhancing productivity on preparing a company's long-term survival. A novel conceptual approach to realizing business opportunities was developed. Findings showed the importance of raising the profile of establishing business opportunities even at the expense of minimizing efficiency gains. Results also indicated the need for senior managers to entice their managers to produce business opportunities and reward efficiencies.

The wealth effects of non-senior management departures from investment banks

Article Abstract:

The departure of non-senior managers from an investment banking company tends to create a negative impact on shareholder value. Results derived from an event study involving a sample of high-rank managers revealed that employee departures involving senior managers negatively affects internal information processes. This effect is particularly pronounced for firms with departing merchant bankers and those which exhibit positive prior performance.
