Hanover Points to Laser Technology

Article Abstract:

The new laser products shown at the 1983 Hanover Fair are expected to have great impact on future automated office products. The Fujitsu M3071A uses lasers to scan, copy, and print. Other exhibits attracting attention were the Agfa printer using LEDs in a matrix array, copiers by Canon and Develop, and Sperry's Ergo System 20 hardware and Sperrylink office system. SEL displayed its network of 3480 series workstations using a 16 bit system with MS-DOS and CPM-96 operating systems. Exxon presented its 8400 series office systems, TRW its graphic software, and Convergent Technology its Turbo information system for multiple processors using graphics. Micrographics: New Technology

Article Abstract:

The field of micrographics has been expanding technologically and will move into optical disks and computer assisted retrieval. COM devices will become more prevalent. The United States National Micrographics Association has become the Association for Information and Image Management to meet this expanding role. At the recent trade show, several new products were unveiled. ALOS Processor 25 possesses microfiche. Mnemos has a new disk with a 3,000 image capacity. Bell and Howell and NCR have the 6600 COM System, an off-line and on-line computer for fiche. 3M has a series of online-offline COM devices.
