How do they get there? An examination of the antecedents of centrality in team networks

Article Abstract:

Social exchange and similarity-attraction theories are drawn to shed new light on antecedents of network centrality, which hypothesizes that individuals' demographic characteristics, values, and personality influence their acquisition of central positions in their teams' social networks. It is suggested that the effects of enduring personal characteristics play a significant role in determining who becomes central in team advice, friendship, and adversarial networks.

Boundary spanners' identification, intergroup contact, and effective intergroup relations

Article Abstract:

The relationship between group boundary spanners' work group identification and effective intergroup relations in 53 work groups in five health care organizations were analyzed. Results revealed that limited support was found for the moderating effect intergroup contact.
