Hutchison bets on new handset

Article Abstract:

Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Ltd. will float on August 17, 1999, with hopes that it will acquire funding for its wireless telephone network. With a $280 million issue, and a $340 million loan, Hutchison seeks to fund its code division multiple access network, which subscribers can use for local and mobile calls. Hutchison, before the float, is 70% owned by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. and 30% by Australian management. On revenue of $259 million for year to December 31, 1998, Hutchison showed a net profit of $12.2 million.
