Imagining imaginary artists
Article Abstract:
Books about artists and other people who have never existed are not common, but do exist in literature. William Boyd's book about an alleged artist named Nat Tate, published in 1998, is the most recent example of this. The books seem realistic enough, as they reflect much about society and arts.

The Poet Laureate will not not be affected by the 5-year elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts, as it is funded by an independent endowment and appointed by the Librarian of Congress. Current laureate Robert Hass has started a nationally syndicated newspaper column on poetry.
