Intel's rivals pose greater challenge by offering faster and better chips
Article Abstract:
The competitors of Intel Corp. are expected to reveal the details of new chips that utilize the same software that Intel's chips use. Analysts are predicting that some of the new chips will rival the products that have made Intel a leader in chip performance. Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has developed a K7 chip that will be introduced in the first half of 1999. At speeds higher than 500 megahertz, the chip almost matches Intel's expected top chip speeds.
