Intelligence: CIA officers fired over Guatemala affair
Article Abstract:
The two officers, Terry Ward and Frederick Burger, were asked to retire and seven other officers were disciplined by CIA chief John M. Deutsch. A covert operation in Guatemala in which the two deaths occurred was mismanaged. Deutsch has been criticised by other officers for his actions.

U.S. reports fault CIA officials
Article Abstract:
The CIA cleared CIA officials who were in Guatemala during the murder of two Americans, Michael De Vine and Efrain Bamaca Velasquez, of any wrongdoing related to their deaths in its report. The CIA did, however, fault officials for not using standards in evaluating informants.

U.S. CIA linked to killings
Article Abstract:
The CIA refuted allegations that it played any role or had any knowledge of the deaths of two Guatemalans, one in 1992 and the other in 1990. Rep Robert G. Torricelli and other government employees supported the allegations based on an analysis of reports made to the CIA.
