Investment company (income) industry

Article Abstract:

Treasury bond rates are expected to remain stable in the 6.5% to 7.5% range through 1998-2000. The bond market has become more stable in 1995 than it was in 1994. Yield spreads have narrowed in corporate bonds and there are now fewer investment-grade bonds available. Foreign debt is now attractive, due to higher US rates, devaluation, and other factors. Closed-end bond fund purchases at a discount to lower risk are advised.

Investment company (income) industry

Article Abstract:

Investors are encouraged to take a cautious look at short-term high-quality bond funds in 1995, and some closed-end bond funds are trading at discount prices. On the other hand, if the economy improves, the Federal Reserve Board may further raise interest rates, which may cause another slowdown. Recommended companies include Nuveen Municipal Value fund, since prices fell after the Orange County, CA, debacle.

Investment company (income) industry

Article Abstract:

Investments in corporate bond funds may yield better results than during the past few years, when companies increased productivity to help stock price growth. The smaller differential between rates for long-term Treasury bonds and three-month bills may forecast an economic downturn. High-yield bond funds are expected to reward the investor, since many companies have built up large cash reserves.
