Just what goes into a Viagra ad? Dancing couples
Article Abstract:
New York-based company Pfizer has planned a country-wide ad campaign for its famous anti-impotence pill, Viagra beginning in fall-1998. The ads have already appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association and other medical journals. Those ads feature couples dancing the two-step in a glossy eight-page photo spread. The focus of the ads will be on the quality of life enhancement that the drug provides for some men as well as their partners. Despite Pfizer's claims, some people in the medical industry feel that the ad campaigns are unnecessary because Viagra is one of the fastest selling prescription drugs in history. Sixteen Viagra-related deaths have been reported causing growing concern that the public has not been informed of the responsibilties of the drug. Most of the deaths involved dangerous drug combinations.
