Korean car rivals under pressure to keep their star status

Korean automaker subsidiaries in Australia advertise aggressively. Hyundai Automotive Distributors Australia spends approximately A$45 million per year on media advertising but is not under additional pressure to sell more cars because of the Asian crisis. Daewoo Automotive Australia spends A$15 million per year on media advertising and is under pressure to lift sales, as are all the subsidiaries around the world.

Amway calling

Amway Australia is increasing its number of customers and distributors due to a revamped incentives program and aggressive promotions. Amway offers a larger range of products and improved perks for its sales force, including discounted services. Its number of distributors total about 60,000, a 40% increase since 1996, and sales have risen 30%.
