Article Abstract:

The mismanagement of the rescue operations after Hurricane Katrina, one of the most vivid illustrations of how ill-managed decentralization can wreak havoc on the lives of those inside and outside an organization and on anyone who is being victimized by poor decision making, is discussed. Also suggestions are presented for individual scholars and the Academy of Management to be vocal in such a way that can make a difference for the public good of society.

Article Abstract:

It is essential to have effective public organizations and to use public resources effectively. In order to have a good management of the public organizations required, management should be made a priority that politicians feel responsible for executing, public managers should be provided with training, and research should be done that develops and makes accessible ideas that will be helpful to public managers.

Article Abstract:

Many areas of management theory and research can be used for enriching public policies and increasing their ability to serve constituencies effectively. Unemployment, corporate governance, international trade and management of public organizations are a sample of chosen areas of management theory and research that could contribute to the efficacy of public policies.
