And the Computer Is Free

Article Abstract:

Advance Electronics in New York City has developed a unique method of advertising to sell computers and software. In a twist of an old ploy, Advance is offering a free computer with the purchase of a software package. Since the software is really what makes the computer valuable, the advertising campaign has been extremely successful - so successful in fact, that the volume generated has allowed the store to cut its prices, and there are thousands of packages on back order. Sanyo, the company whose computer is being offered for free, admits that the campaign has not hurt their image, although they would have done things differently.

Are You Protected Against Computer Crime?

Article Abstract:

Although computer-related fraud is increasingly easy and virtually impossible to detect, research shows that British computer users are markedly underprotected. According to Stewart Wrightson Insurance Broking Group, the most common forms of abuse are processing of unauthorized data (fifty-six percent), misuse of computer time (twenty-two percent), fraudulent program steps (nine percent), and deliberate misrepresentation (eight percent). Stewart Wrightson has prepared an evaluation service that points out appropriate security measures.
