Memo: How to Choose an Electronic Typewriter
Article Abstract:
Electronic typewriters now boast of automatic Document Set-Up (formatting) functions and automatic typing features such as centering and underlining. Typing features keys should be able to be reached from the home row, and Document Set-Up should be able to be changed while entering text. Correction memory should extend back past the current line. Memory should not be volatile; displays should show the preceding word as well as the ones being entered. Other not-so-obvious criteria for selecting an electronic typewriter are given. Brief descriptions and features of fourteen brands of electronic typewriters are included.

Memo: Delegation Makes the Wheels Go Round
Article Abstract:
Managers, on average, spend less than thirty per cent of their time on executive matters due, in part, to their inability to delegate authority properly. The people best able to administer paper work, scheduling and follow-up are the secretaries who are motivated by the responsibility. If good teamwork has been established, the secretary will be kept informed about the projects, problems, and people the manager must deal with. Suggestions for building this relationship are given.

Memo: Guess Who Will End up As the Prime Workstation User
Article Abstract:
Although advertising now frequently pictures a male manager seated before a personal computer, it is the secretary who is and will be the prime user. It is the secretary, therefore, who should determine if an operating system can run the software to perform the required tasks, provide the necessary communications, and permit up- grading. Vendors, recognizing the secretaries' roles, must provide them with substantial training if the system is to work.
