Monetary metamorphosis
Article Abstract:
The nature of money in developed global economies is changing from a symbol of value to a mere node on an informational network. Rather than being a form of value authorized by a single authority, money is part of the global economic network. International capital markets transact ten times the real economy, resulting in a monetary network not supervised by outside authorities. Traders use economic statistics as interpretations of value. Undeveloped countries, though, are at a disadvantage with little access such global networks.
