Network memory: The influence of past and current networks on performance

Article Abstract:

The efficacy of two alternative network structures, closure and structural holes, from the contingent perspective of time are investigated in order to connect past and current social structures to outcomes. It is observed that, in the Italian television production industry, current structural holes rather than past ones, but past closure rather than current closure, help network performance.

Partner substitutability, alliance network structure, and firm profitability in the telecommunications industry

Article Abstract:

The effects of partner substitutability and alliance network structure on organizational profitability were explored. Analyzing alliances in the US telecommunications industry, it is revealed that a firm facing nonsubstitutable partners was better off when its alliances were embedded in third-party ties, which allowed the firm to gain indirect leverage on such partners.
