No-Budge Budget
Article Abstract:
President Reagan is trying to work towards his ultimate goal of balancing the budget by reducing federal spending in many areas as he prepares his 1982 budget proposal. The Chamber of Commerce argues for even more cuts, preferably in the entitlement programs. A simpler business depreciation table and his three year tax cut proposal, the Kemp-Roth Bill, are major components of the budget plan. Charts and graphs show comparison figures on outlays and receipts. Critics argue that the tax cuts would mostly benefit the wealthy, and no one wants to see program cuts in his own special interest area.

AN ANSWER: CONTROL THE UNCONTROLLABLES
Article Abstract:
MOST SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT ON HOW TO CURB INFLATION THINK THAT FEDERAL PAYMENTS FUELED BY THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX SHOULD BE CONTROLLED. WAGE-PRICE CONTROLS ARE NOT WORKING. THE FEDERAL BUDGET DEFICIT MUST BE REDUCED, THE GROWTH OF THE MONEY SUPPLY MUST BE LIMITED, AND BUSINESS INVESTMENT MUST BE STIMULATED THROUGH TAX RELIEF.
