Online gambling seems a sure bet for some

Internet gambling is growing in Australia, and online gaming company eBet is now the largest agency of the the New Zealand Totalisator Agency Board (TAB). eBet is likely making more than $NZ250,000 a week from TAB customers. TAB customers are making 10,000 transactions a week through the eBet site. In 1Q 1999, eBet growth increased by 64%. eBet plans to list on the Australian Stock Exchange in July 1999.

Volume in the online advertising sector Australia totalled A$3.9 million in 1997, and online advertising expenditures are forecasted at A$12 million in 1998. Approximately 600 Australian companies are advertising on the Internet, according to www.consult principal Ramin Marzbani. The computer hardware and software industry and the financial services industry are the biggest online advertisers.

Jon O'Meara, managing director of I.T. Facilitators, has created a Web site that promises a 20% reduction in procurement costs for information technology. The company offers 37 online modules at no cost to members. The system works by linking customers with vendors. Vendors are also rated, and that information is available online.
