Plans 'n Totals is a modeling and planning program designed to perform budgets, forecasts, financial and organizational planning, and financial planning. The program can calculate taxes, inventories, cost of sales and depreciation, and it can produce a wide variety of reports, including financial statements, profit details, and expense budgets. The program does not have to be used with a spreadsheet, this saves time when preparing reports, but spreadsheet users may have difficulty adjusting to new methods of inputting data. Plans 'n Totals requires an IBM PC-compatible machine with 512K of memory and a PC-DOS or MS-DOS operating system. The package is available in three versions which range in price from $195 to $395.

Edgewood Systems of Pittsburgh is marketing LeaseManag-r, a data base accounting and management support system that runs on IBM Xts, ATs and compatibles with ten-megabyte hard disks, 512Kbytes of memory and operating system of DOS 2.0 or 2.1. As a management system, the software is designed specifically for the lease accounting functions related to vehicle and equipment leasing, and helps managers monitor leases according to vehicle number, lease number, serial number or license plate number. The data monitored relate to insurance on the leased items and financing of the leases. The system is praised for its ability to review monthly lease activity and payments, while maintaining accurate records of depreciation.

The Fixed Asset Accounting Software package from Aardvark - McGraw-Hill is intended to calculate the depreciation of fixed assets for small businesses. Users will need to be familiar with current tax and accounting terms and principles, although the menu-driven program is easy operate. In order for depreciation to be calculated accurately, the user must know the company's fiscal or calendar year-end date. The program runs on any IBM PC compatible machine with a DOS operating system and 256K of memory. The program is copy protected, although a back up system disk is provided. This is a useful program for users who want to track the value of their fixed assets, if the users have the necessary level of expertise.
