Property still trusted

Article Abstract:

Property trusts that are usually bought by investors for their yields become less attractive when interest rates rise but these trusts have outperformed the Australian All Ordinaries by more than five percent in the year 2003 despite the strong performance in the first half of the same year. Analysts attribute this strong performance to the trusts as they re-worked their stock portfolio and concentrated more on defensive stocks.

Building and construction companies are no longer the market favorites. The sharp rise in construction prices has cut deep into the profits forcing many companies in this sector to revise their forecasts southwards. Even so, a few companies like Central Equity and Devine Group have recorded handsome gains and their stock prices have risen by 15% and 8% respectively.
