Redback let customers buy stock that then soared; critics question ethics

Article Abstract:

Internet companies strapped for cash have been letting customers buys shares of their stock at discounted prices. Since Internet stocks prices have risen incredibly fast some of these investors have made substantial gains. This is not technically illegal, however, there are those in the industry that believe this sort of favoritism is wrong because the stock is not available to other investors.

3Com tops expectations but warns on growth

Article Abstract:

Shares of 3Com Corp. fell 14% after the company announces a 33% earnings rise for the second quarter. 3Com did warn that next quarter's earnings would more likely be the equivalent of last years. The company's income was $177.3 million for the quarter; $132.9 million in earnings same time, last year. The Palm division sales grew 77% to $261 million in a year.
