Referendums back Berlusconi

Article Abstract:

Italian voters defeated three referendums on the Jun 11, 1995, ballot that were designed to limit Berlusconi's media empire. Through Fininvest SpA, he owns three television stations, that critics say gives him too much power. Berlusconi plans to run for premier in the next general election.

Dini named new Italian premier; politically neutral cabinet unveiled

Article Abstract:

Dini was named premier by Italy Pres Oscar Luigi Scalfaro on Jan 13, 1995, but had not been approved by parliament as of Jan 19, 1995. Dini proposes pension cuts and and a direct electoral system, and other economic reforms as some of his goals. Dini replaces Silvio Berlusconi.

Dini survives confidence vote

Article Abstract:

Italy's Chamber of Deputies rejected a no-confidence vote in Dini's government on Oct 26, 1995, by 310-291. The vote had been called by former Premier Silvio Berlusconi, and the Reconstructed Communists Party's vote against the measure was critical.
