Reply to "remarks on the Analytic Hierarchy Process" by J.S. Dyer
Article Abstract:
A response to a paper analyzing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is presented to counter claims made in the paper that the AHP is flawed, and that the AHP generates rankings which are arbitrary. It is suggested that these specific criticisms arise because the theory on which the AHP is built is not understood. The response to the criticisms discusses whether the axioms of the AHP are valid, analyzes rank reversals, and comments on methods proposed in the previous paper.

The theory of ratio scale estimation: Saaty's analytic hierarchy process
Article Abstract:
Saaty's Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) of 1980 has been demonstrated to be a very useful tool for planning and decision-making. Some researchers have questioned the theoretical basis underlying the process, however. Currently discussed issues concerning the AHP's theoretical foundations are examined. Mathematical proof and examples are presented to demonstrate the validity or incorrect qualities of the criticisms.

Product positioning under price competition
Article Abstract:
A limited example focused on analgesics is presented to illustrate the application of a consumer-based methodology for new product positioning and pricing when products are being challenged with price competition. The approach reveals how Nash equilibrium pricing methods can be established, and then uses a Stackelberg-Nash equilibrium technique to show how to determine the best position and price for a new product.
