Revamped TNT sees a high-tech road to a competitive future

Article Abstract:

Express company TNT, trying to recover from years of turmoil, has finally recognized the importance of globalizing its information technology (IT) systems and thereby gaining some leverage. IT Director Bob Hennessy acknowledges, however, that the group will have a truly worldwide IT system until at least 2001. In part, the challenge for TNT is to develop international platform and application standards.

Partnership schemes need 'more carrot, less stick', says HP

Article Abstract:

Australia's Federal Government Partnerships for Development can benefit from increased incentives, according to Hewlett-Packard officials. Larger tax breaks and other cash incentives would encourage more participants in the program. The government has placed too much emphasis on strong-arm tactics, such as threatening to withdraw usage of participants' products or services.

Java pushes past the novelty stage

Article Abstract:

Sun Microsystems' Java programming language is being used to increase the competitive edge by investment bank Lehman Brothers. Lehman used Java to create an entire systems management platform. Time and productivity savings were apparent. Java could save time by managing Unix and NT systems simultaneously. Also, the productivity of programmers increased by 30%.
