Simultaneous determination of production cycle and inspection schedules in a production system

Article Abstract:

The relationship between production cycles and maintenance, inspection, or repair is examined. It is suggested that production and maintenance-by-inspection can be part of the same cycle. Using an approximation to the cost function, it is possible to simultaneously determine economic manufacturing quality and the inspection schedule. It is possible to extend the use of this model where some of the assumptions are relaxed, such as the definition of what a defective product is, or how many defective products have to be produced for the system to be considered out of control.

The dynamics of plant layout

Article Abstract:

Plant layout is treated as a dynamic, or multi-period, problem. A static, or single-period problem, is described and extended to a multi-period model. A dynamic programming formulation is then used to develop both optimal and heuristic problem-solving procedures. The choice of procedure will depend on the computational efficiency of the solution to the initial static problem. A heuristic approach is recommended for layout problems that have a large number of departments.

A generalized quantity discount pricing model to increase supplier's profits

Article Abstract:

The problem of planning and offering supplier price discounts to the main buyer is evaluated. The goal is to convince the buyer to change the order schedule and the content so the supplier will be aided by the smaller set up, ordering, and the expenses related to inventory control. The supplier's two-fold problem of joint ordering and price discounts is solved through the use of an algorithm.
