Small size, big ideas
Article Abstract:
Australian companies have a favorable reputation for product development and innovation, and that can often be measured by the money spent on research and development (R&D) and in the number of patents, trademarks, and design protections for which a company applies. Larger companies tend to spend the most on R&D; Thomson Marconi Sonar, for example, spends 25% of its revenue on it. Smaller companies, however, spend about 5% on R&D. Patent and trademark applications generally imply innovation, which is vital to the survival of smaller companies without substantial R&D funds.

All together now, speak it, hear it, see it ... all in one
Article Abstract:
The Internet protocol (IP) infrastructure is expected to be the basis of all computer networking applications, especially in telephony. Richard Freemantle of Cisco Systems Inc. forecasts that networks will be carrying voice as well as data and that telephones will be seen not just as voice systems but as an integral part of the computing network. The IP network will be a challenge to both users and suppliers, as all must adapt to changing communications needs.
