Space warrior: a visionary scientist's passion for space technology is rewarded by investors

Article Abstract:

Electro Optic Systems (EOS) is developing laser technology that can push weapon controlling satellites out of orbit and out of action and nudge space junk into the atmosphere to disintegrate. Russell Lander, an analyst at Ord Minnett feels that the company's laser technology, which can be used to throw satellites offcourse, is an exciting opportunity for growth because satellites are replacing submarines as the hidden weapons in war.

Founded by David McMohan and his wife Maxine Horne in 1994, the company partnered with Telstra and used bank finance to open 28 stores, which number over a span of 10 years expanded to 104 stores. It has to its credit four acquisitions in 2003, which were financed through venture investment bank Investec.

A dirty year

Of late, the performance of Spotless Group has been disappointing. The company's main businesses are Catering, Cleaning and supply of Coat Hangers to garment industry. The hanger business is doing better now and they have renewed their contract with Target and made the U.S retailer Walmart their customer.
