The franchise system faces the danger of system deterioration, hidden costs and overmanagement unless the correct combination of standardization and local market adaptation is established. The pricing of a brand name product: franchising in the motel services industry

Article Abstract:

The structure of franchise contracts affects the price differential between franchised and independent motels, while the size of the initial franchise fee is positively related to the prices charged by franchises. Moreover, the size of price differential among franchises and independent motels are positively related to the presence of repeat customers. Furthermore, the presence of repeat customers and higher franchise fees are factors that can help to resolve the agency problems that may arise between franchisors and franchisees.

International franchising: capabilities and development

Article Abstract:

The major capabilities required in global franchising were identified to address entrepreneurial franchisors' general lack of skills and resources needed for international expansion. A theoretical framework that integrates dynamic capabilities with risk management theory and administrative efficiency theory was proposed to determine the capabilities necessary for successful global franchising. These capabilities include cultural adaptability, distance management, host country policy evaluation and exchange rate management.
