Static in Cellular Radio

Article Abstract:

Cellular mobile telephones appear ready for the consumer market. The cellular mobile telephones have several advantages over conventional radio telephones. The arrangement of dozens of low-power radio transmitters gives the phones their reliability. Competition is expected to be fierce in this new industry. Price will be a major competitive weapon. As prices come down the market for the phones is expected to grow. Competition for licenses is very stiff already. In most cities the telephone companies settled first and will be on the air first. The retail cellular phone market is already crowded.

EPA's Formaldehyde Scare

Article Abstract:

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has flip- flopped in its opinions on formaldehyde use. Where they removed bans on its use in recent years, they are now proposing new restrictions on its use. Their decision rests, in the main, on one experiment with rats exposed to high dosages of formaldehyde. Human beings are never exposed to such high concentrations, and since formaldehyde occurs naturally in the human body, the rat studies seem poor guides on which to base public policy.
