Strategic orientation of business enterprises: the construct, dimensionality, and measurement

Article Abstract:

Valid measures of key dimensions of the Strategic Orientation of Business Enterprises constructs are conceptualized and developed. The constructs are defined using theoretical questions of scope including: domain, hierarchical level, and intentions versus realizations. The concept is further conceptualized across six dimensions. Operational indicators are developed for the six dimensions using a field study of 200 businesses. Results indicate that the operational measures satisfy the criteria for convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity, and the criteria for unidimensionality.

Eight half-truths of strategic planning: a fresh look

Article Abstract:

The most effective strategic plan will be based on long-range performance and will be flexible. The major principles of the action plan must be supported by all employees in the corporation or organization. Planning programs will be enhanced more by reflection and reviews than by second guessing the happenings of the distant and unforeseen future. The success of the strategic plan will be determined by involvement of top management.

Planning system success: a conceptualization and an operational model

Article Abstract:

A two-dimensional model for measuring the success of planning systems s developed. The two dimensions used are improvements in planning system capabilities, and the extent to which key planning objectives are fulfilled. Joreskog's analysis of covariance structures is applied to the two dimensions to determine construct validity.
