Successful Planning in the Management Information Maze
Article Abstract:
Differences between three information systems used for management decision-making are detailed. The three information systems are electronic data processing systems (EDP), management information systems (MIS) and decision support systems (DSS). The effectiveness of an organization depends on how well these systems are used. Each system has a different focus, objectives, structure and output, which are outlined in table form. Changes in the environment make managerial decision-making a complex process. Knowing the characteristics and function of each system is necessary to integrate them into an effective framework.

Information processing techniques in planning: an investigation of preferences of executive planners
Article Abstract:
A study of executive preferences for information processing methods shows that the behavior affecting their options may not be attributed to a single theory except by an implied theoretical explanation. Volatile environments, the adaptability of systems and levels of planning all contribute to the differences in planning scenarios. These differences affect executives' search for information and the appropriate information processing method. Eight information processing tools are evaluated in terms of executive preferences in a situational context.

Comparing objective service failures and subjective complaints: an investigation of domino and halo effects
Article Abstract:
The performance relationships between actual objective service failures and consumer complaints are investigated. A number of correlational analyses find support for the presence of consumer 'halo effects' for further complaints and, to a lesser degree, a 'domino effect' across attributes of objective service failure. Findings also indicate that both sources of information should be gathered before successful diagnosis and proactive prevention of future service problems can be performed.
