Takeover targets in line of fire

Article Abstract:

Many of Australia's best corporate takeover targets were acquired in the 1980s, but if capital gains tax legislation is amended, takeover activity may receive a boost in 2000. Prime targets for corporate takeover are a second AMP Inc. bid for GIO Australia, after the first netted 51.7% shares for AMP; Oil Search, an oil and gas field services company; and HIH Insurance with continuing low stock prices. However, takeover bids in the same industry will likely face the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and its interpretation of anti-competitive regulations.

The HHG conundrum

Article Abstract:

The issue of whether HHG is a sound business and the question regarding possessing its stock is worthable is discussed. The HHG conundrum is that it might be in danger, if shareholders sell their investments in a rush. The meeting on December 09, 2003 might lead to a comedy of errors if HHG (dumped by AMP) eventually provides a better rate of return than AMP itself that would turn out to be the greatest paradox.
