Australia's goods and services tax (GST) will become effective July 1; however, neither the government nor the public are prepared. Tax advisers are expressing concern regarding the business-activity statement, inadequate hotline assistance, the lack of binding rulings, and the quality of the tax office's course. Nearly 1.5 million people will be registering for the GST.
