The checkoff challenge

Article Abstract:

The decision of the United States Supreme Court in Johanns v. Livestock Marketing Association is discussed. Cattle farmers were asked to pay for advertisement under Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985, which they protested against citing it to be a violation of their rights under First Amendment. The Supreme Court held that cattle farmers and ranchers could be forced to pay for a marketing program that was sponsored by the government and there was no violation of rights under First Amendment in such cases.
